Trip Aurich (Germany)

The day began chaotic when Tom, Dijkstra and me (Pascal) head towards a town called Veendam for the bus trip to Aurich. When we arrived in Veendam, we looked for a supermarket to get some food and something to drink for the rest of the day. By the time we wanted to cycle towards the bus we noticed we were a little late, so we called the organiser of the trip and he said that the driver gave us 10 minutes before he would leave, 9 minutes later we were loading our bikes into the bus and were ready to leave. The bus drove through a town called Oude-pekela to get some more scaters and bikers who would come along. These guys were noisy and later we found out that they had ADD, but still we had a good time underway.

Once on the highway everything was going OK, until we headed into a traffic jam. The result of the German road workers. Apparently they dont know the words: Extra drive lanes because on the side of the road stood a traffic board with on it in German: Still 5 KM (3,11 miles) of traffic jam ahead until the work on the roads. So we all got out of the bus, some for a smoke, some for movement and others for a piss against the crash barrier. After a while of walking we noticed the traffic was starting to move, and that meant we should get the hell back to the bus, the most of the people got in the bus in time, but some had to jump into the driving bus. It was pretty enjoyable to get a mad dash to the bus and get everybody aboard in time. The traffic jam took in total 2 hours of our precious BMX time.

Once we arrived in Aurich it was going pretty nice. Everybody tried some new stuff and improved the tricks they already knew. Tom landed every time almost his tailwhip and I landed a no footer and almost my tailwhips. Further we tried our trick of high-low. That trick goes as follows: Bolth bikers go into the same quarter at the same time. One goes over the coping and the other goes under it in opposite directions, so both riders meet up in the middle of the quarter and then watch out not to crash into each other on it.

On the way back we made a stop at a German supermarket to get some beer, something to eat on the way back and to stand 5 double parked on the parking space. The return trip was pretty noisy until the bus stopped at Ounde-pekela again. For some reason a bus with ADD guys is a lot more soundfull then when they left (Thank god, because we were drained of all of hat riding of the day and didnt had any strength left to listen to those guys). After a short stop the bus was going back to Veendam. The first skaters started to get on there halfpipe as soon as the bus arrived back. (Strange because we were pretty much tired of cycling the whole day). After a little rest in Veendamwe started to think of our way back on our bikes to our homes 10 KM (6,21 miles) further. We all decided to head to dijkstras home becous Tom couldnt reach his parents to ask if they could get him. So we drove from Veendam (by bike) to De Groeve where dijkstra lives 13 KM (8,08 mile). After a little stop, me and Tom decided to go on to Zuidlaren (where I live), Once we got to Zuidlaren Tom tried to reach his parents and with success. He could be picked up in Zuidlaren with no problem, Otherwise he had to cycle 31 KM (19,26 mile) back on his own by nightfall. We decided to go to a friend of us and a while later Dijksta came too to his place. We all cycled through our town and I decided to say good by for now and to go home. We had pain, smelled like old gym socks and were trashed. But it was worth it!

I think that I speak for everybody that if I say that it was a GREAT day, and well defiantly be going back next year!

About me

Hi all,

I'm Pascal Menting and i live in Holland (Europe).
I first got to this site from BBSAI, i like the movies on that site, and a hotlink came to this one.

I started riding from 2005/2006 and my friends say im getting better by the week. Im running a site (groningenbmx.hyves.nl) so we can organise when to run at the local skatepark, go on trips or just chat.

I started with BMX-biking in november 2005, after some tips of a friend of mine. My first bike was a used GT "Performer" 2004 model. When i was trying to fix it i notesed it was cheaper to by a new dragonfly so i boght the "One USA" 2006 model. And now after a few year's i got myselve a new Eastern Shovelhead 2008!
