Sunday the 26th of July saw the eagerly anticipated second round of the CORE Series 2009 at the Redcliffe City Skate Park thanks to the Redcliffe Area Youth Service, the Department of Communities’ YACCA (Youth Crime Prevention) Program & Moreton Bay Regional Council.

With 75 competitors entering the various competitions, the large crowd was treated to some of the best BMX and Skateboarding action ever seen at the park. Redcliffe Area Youth Space Coordinator, Jarryd Williams, was thrilled with the turnout for the first CORE Series round at the Redcliffe Skate Park. “It was great to see such a well know event come out to Redcliffe. All the locals out here are very into BMX & Skateboarding and were very excited to have a professional competition at their local park. We are looking forward to welcoming the CORE Series back in future years.”

The Forgotten Bike Beginner BMX and Subrosa Expert BMX competitions were up next and all competitors showed off some great young talents. Both competitions were extremely close to call for the judges. After some deliberation, Tim Storey was judged the winner of Beginner BMX, and Steve Lyons took home the expert title. With the weekends results, Josh Robson stays on top of the Beginner Series Championship, and Patrick Niall moves up to first in Expert.

In the main event, the We The People BMX ChmapionLast years champion, Nick Cooper, put himself right back in the mix with a solid 3rd place. The 13yr old “super kid”, Alex Hiam came 2nd after qualifying in 1st place with a near perfect score. But Kyle Baldoch, who recovered from some unlucky crashes early in the day, put together a flawless run in the finals and just scrape in ahead of Alex for the win.

With the win, Kyle moves in to 1st place in the Pro BMX Series Championship, with Alex only 1 point behind him after securing the bonus points for qualifying first. Aaron Dodd and Nick Cooper are next in the series and both in a position to challenge for the title come the Grand Final.
