A 12-year-old boy has died after crashing his BMX bike at a skate park in Melbourne's outer east.
Alex Webb severely injured his upper leg and torso after misjudging a jump at a park in David Hill Road in Monbulk about 5pm yesterday.
Paramedics were called just after 5pm and treated the boy for 30 minutes. However, he died at the scene after suffering a heart attack brought on by blood loss.
My condolences to Alex's family and friends.

Freecaster media release
The BMX tradition continues in Cologne, Germany where the fourth Suzuki BMX Masters will take place on Friday July 4th to Sunday July 6th. The world's BMX elite will gather once again at the Cologne Jugendpark to compete for the 30,000 euro prize purse.
There will be competitions in five different BMX freestyle disciplines; street, mini-ramp, vert, flatland and dirt and depending on skills and the levels of difficulty there will be expert, master, amateur and pro classes. In addition, the Suzuki BMXMasters will once again support the involvement of girls in BMX, with Girls flatland and street disciplines.
More than 400 participants from all over the world will be present to take part in one of the most fun and exciting BMX events to take place in Europe. They will include pros Ryan Nyquist (USA), Mike Aitken (USA) Dennis Enarson (USA), Josh Harrington (USA), Allistar Whitton (UK), Luke Parslow (AUS), Cory Nasty Nastazio (USA) and Heath Pinter (USA).
Daniel Dhers (VEN), Mark Webb (UK) and Harry Main (UK) will also be present to battle it out for the top spot in the Braun cruZer Tour Final. All three are in with a chance of Braun glory since the contest is judged best two results out of three. Dhers, who took third overall last year, won the first stage at FISE but was hindered by a flat at NASS where he came in third, allowing young Brit Harry Main to gain second place and a real chance at winning overall. Braun cruZer star Mark Webb who has won every tour overall so far will also be hoping to retain his crown. Mark's performance up until now has been nothing short of extraordinary considering the serious back injury he is still recovering from. The battle for the number one spot will be seriously tight. Harry Main has been improving leaps and bounds, can he upset this final to take home the trophy? Watching these guys pull their best tricks will be a thrilling experience no doubt.
As well as the Braun Spine ramp, the riders will all have the opportunity to compete on the brand new street design, Vert, a 500 sqm Flatland area and a Dirt course that promises to deliver some surprises. There'll be plenty to entertain the huge crowds of enthusiastic BMX fans which, last year, was over 12,000 strong.
