This is pretty much a bitch fest for all those that are injured.
My bitch is about my wrist. 3 months ago I dislocated 7 of the 8 bones in your wrist resulting in two k-wires needing to be put in to hold everything together as every ligament in my hand was torn. During my stay, they gave me a shot of morphine for the pain. I had an anaphylactic reaction to it. It involved breathing problems, complete pain loss and the obsessive need to rip off every inch of skin on my body. It freaked out the doctors hardcore and I was put on observation for 4 hours. Thankfully, that was all for the time being, aside from the anesthetist diagnosing me with a rare genetic condition called Elos Danlos. That means the ligaments in my body are stretchier that normal. Atleast it explained all my dislocations and lack of fractures. After a day in hospital talking with an ice junkie, I was sent home. Things went smoothly from then (excepting the nonstop, 24hr pain from my wrist) until about week 5. I went into hospital with obvious signs of infection. Swelling, redness, pain and puss oozing from where the wires poked out from my skin. I went back 3 or 4 times but always got the same indirect, roundabout answer, sending me home without even a script for antibiotics. Anyway, I got my wires out without any pain killers because of a muck up in admin after about 7 1/2 weeks. I was meant to go into surgery but they thought that was for another time. I just said pull the bastards out now cause they hurt too damn much. So they did but not before they had a great time digging around under my skin for the wire heads. They had been lost under a whole lot of granulated tissue. Basically that means the layers of tissue under the skin pushed through the hole in your skin forming a tender, raised lump that bleeds violently at the slightest touch. Anyway, while whey tried to pull them out, the forceps slipped on one of my wires. Nothing rivals that pain I swear on my life. The guy who pulled them out reckoned that the guys who put them in stuck them in place with glue. Anyway, two days later I'm back in hospital with a temperature of 38.8 degrees and a hand literally the size of a small football. I was immediately put on a very high dosage of prescription antibiotics and was taken to theater where they washed out 2 tablespoons of puss, bacteria and gas from in between my wrist bones. Before that though, the doctor came and spoke to me. He gave me little or no hope of ever riding BMX again because of the severity of the injury, coupled with the infection. He thought I might not get back even 10% of my wrist movement. So the next day after agonizing pain and a pain killer that had caused an adverse reaction in me, more miss communication came to me and doctors that hadn't even operated on me came and told me I had golden staff infection. For all those who don't know what that is, it's a really REALLY bad infection that usually leads to loss of limbs. Thankfully, they sorted that out after 3 days of grieving and told me that I only have the regular form of staff that everyone has on their skin. The bad news now was that it is in my bones. So after a 10 day stay in hospital, I got a PICC line in so I can continue to give myself 24/7 antibiotics intravenously at home. Thats a line into your bicep that runs directly into your heart. I also found out that because of my lack of movement added to the infection, the bone density in my hand and forearm has dropped so I now need to be really careful because my arm bones could snap hell easy. So now, I'm sitting at home with a practically immobile wrist and another 4 weeks on antibiotics, atleast. It will then be maybe another 2 months at best before I can ride again. I hate life at the moment. Things will look up eventually though, I hope.
